Cost-Sharing Reduction (CSR)
Silver-plan-only ACA subsidy that lowers deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket max for households under 250% FPL.
Full explanation
Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSRs) are a separate ACA subsidy from premium tax credits — they reduce deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums on Silver plans for households below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Below 150% FPL, a Silver plan effectively performs like Platinum (very low deductible). At 150-200% FPL, like high Gold. At 200-250% FPL, modest improvement over standard Silver. Above 250% FPL, no CSR. Always pick Silver if you qualify for CSR — Gold and Bronze plans don't carry it.
