Quick definition: Social Security form to request a reduction of IRMAA after a life-changing event.

Full explanation

Form SSA-44 lets Medicare beneficiaries request a reduction of their Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) when their income has dropped due to one of eight life-changing events: marriage, divorce, death of spouse, work stoppage, work reduction, loss of income-producing property, loss of pension, or pension settlement. Submit with documentation — Social Security typically processes appeals within 30-60 days. If granted, your Part B and Part D premiums recalculate to reflect the lower estimated current-year income.
