Quick definition: Amount you pay out-of-pocket before insurance starts paying.

Full explanation

A deductible is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket for covered services before insurance begins paying its share. Deductibles reset annually. ACA Bronze plans typically have $7,000-$9,400 individual deductibles in 2026; Silver $3,000-$6,500; Gold $1,000-$2,500; Platinum $0-$500. Many preventive services (annual checkups, screenings, vaccinations) are covered before the deductible at $0 cost-sharing. Family deductibles are typically 2x individual; some plans use embedded individual-within-family deductibles where any one family member meeting the individual amount triggers cost-sharing for that person.
