A conversion privilege lets you convert all or part of a term life policy to a permanent (whole life or universal life) policy from the same carrier without a new medical exam or health questionnaire. The conversion window varies by carrier — some allow conversion up through year 10 of a 20-year term, some up to age 65 or 70, some only in year 1.
